AMERICAN DREAM

                                                          GEOFF ROWLEY

It was near 30 years ago that Geoff Rowley first picked up a skateboard in Liverpool. Just five years later, Rowley packed his bags and headed to Long Beach. This began a career that led to a long association with Vans, an award as Thrasher Skater of the year and his rise to become arguably the most famous skater Britain has ever produced.

Throughout his career, Rowley has seen skateboarding evolve from a niche pursuit to an Olympic sport. "I do not think the average person thinks we are as much of a scumbag as we used to be," Rowley jokes. "The biggest change is that people are aware of it now. Twenty years ago, people were not as aware of it. When I moved to the United States in 1994, there was still a big stigma to being a skateboarder. You still got yelled at by cars on the side of the road, just like the whole time I was growing up in England.
